Move would follow a recent Air Force decision to do the same; Army pays a visit to Barksdale Air Force Base to explore options

Trendspotting: the Army, following the lead of the Air Force, is undergoing a significant overhaul of its cyberwarfare capabilities and may set up a seperate cyber command, FCW reported. “The Air Force did not just create a new command,” said the Army’s Vernon Bettencourt, noting that his service had sent a delegation to Barksdale Air Force Base, the home of the Air Force Cyber Command, to take a closer look. “The Air Force changed its mission statement to say that it fights in three domains: air, space and cyberspace. A development like that is worthy of our assessment.” At the same time, said Bettencourt, the Army was working on independant steps that could achieve some of the same benefits of a single cyber command, including co-locating parts of its Information Operations Command, its computer emergency response teams, and its Network Enterprise Technology Command together at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
