AS&E sells more mobile X-ray detection systems in the Middle East

AS&E develops a unique X-ray detection system which allows, among other things, for law enforcement personnel to conduct inconspicuous drive-by scanning; an unnamed country in the Middle East has just purchased several of these systems

Billerica, Massachusetts-based American Science and Engineering (NASDAQ: ASEI), a specialist in X-ray detection technology, has received a $2.3 million order from an unnamed Middle Eastern law enforcement agency for several Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV). AS&E’s Z Backscatter Van is a mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows law enforcement agencies to move the screening unit from one location to another in response to security threats. The system boasts a unique “drive-by” capability which law enforcement people like: It allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives, inconspicuously, past suspect vehicles and objects. We like this feature: For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
