(ISC)2, the largest non-profit group of certified information security professionals in the world, will hold its first annual Security Congress in conjunction with ASIS International’s 57th annual Seminar and Exhibits conference in Orlando, Florida.

The combined events are expected to attract more than 20,000 security professionals from around the world.

Late last year (ISC)2 and ASIS signed a deal to work together and leverage their mutual strengths and membership bases.

In regards to the agreement, ASIS president Raymond T. O’Hara said, “This agreement reflects the rapidly evolving, converging roles of the information security and traditional security professionals within the global business marketplace.”

He added, “By strategically aligning our organizational resources, our combined memberships of more than 100,000 professionals gain access to core knowledge and best practices across the full spectrum of information and traditional security. The opportunity to connect with one’s security counterpart and to build a solid practitioner network is one of the most valuable benefits to be derived from this relationship.”

During the conference the two organizations will jointly offer certification seminars for various security and technology-related credentials.

Security professionals will have the opportunity to obtain their professional investigator, physical security professional, secure software lifecycle professional, and information systems security professional credentials.

Beyond the conference, ASIS and (ISC)2 will work together on developing educational programming, research, and legislative issues.

W. Hord Tipton, the executive director of (ISC)2, said, “It is ever so clear that the certification and education bodies must work together to better serve this growing security profession.”

“Our goal in working with ASIS is to develop high-quality programs for the broader security community that will further develop a workforce whose skills are in great demand,” Tipton said.

More than 37,000 security professionals from around the world are members of ASIS International, while (ISC)2 has nearly 75,000 information security professionals as members in over 135 countries.
