BioSentry water monitoring system to be used in bottling market

Published 14 March 2006

Monitoring and maintaining water quality moves up on the security agenda. San Diego, California-based JMAR Technologies (NASDAQ: JMAR), a developer of advanced laser technology which is applied to monitoring water quality, has signed an OEM agreement with Virginia-based Portaqua to introduce a new portable water system into the bottling market based on JMAR’s BioSentry. The agreement calls for BioSentry to be offered as an optional feature to Portaqua’s product. As their first collaboration under the new agreement, Portaqua and JMAR will exhibit together at the World Water Forum to be held later this week in Mexico City.

BioSentry is a contamination warning system for waterborne microorganisms. Current water monitoring depends on batch sampling of water and time-consuming lab analysis. BioSentry, in contrast, uses laser-based technology to provide continuous, online, real-time monitoring for harmful bacteria and protozoa. BioSentry is targeted toward municipal drinking water utilities, the beverage industry, and homeland security.
