Boeing Australia to support Insitu's ScanEagle UAV

Deal representative of the close relationship between the two companies; Boeing to provide reconnaissance and surveillance services; ScanEagle, currently deployed by U.S. forces in Iraq, finds an admirer in the Australian high command

There is something in the air. Brisbane, Australia-based Boeing Australia has received, for an undisclosed price, a contract to provide that country’s armed forces with reconnaissance and surveillance services to complement the deployment of Bingen, Washington-based Insitu’s ScanEagle UAV. The ScanEagle, which is currently in use by American forces in Iraq, carries either an electro-optical or an infrared camera. Both are inertially stabilized. The gimbaled camera allows the operator to easily track stationary and moving targets, including enemy combatants, vehicles, roads, buildings and other hot spots. “ScanEagle provides critical real-time imagery through low-altitude reconnaissance to give tactical commanders a clearer picture of the battlefield,” said Andrew Duggan of Boeing Australia. “The air vehicle’s small size and relatively quiet engine make it highly stealthy even at low altitudes.”
