Two companies collaborate to produce the world’s first non-pyrotechnic shotgun tracer; ChemiTracer creates a daytime visible trace that travels with the cloud of the shot allowing shooters instantly to determine how to correct their aim

Cyalume Technologies Holdings has entered into a strategic agreement with Fiocchi Ammunition USA, a developer of small-caliber ammunition, to develop and market ChemiTracer, which both companies describe as the world’s first non-pyrotechnic shotgun tracer. ChemiTracer creates a daytime visible trace that travels with the cloud of the shot allowing shooters instantly to determine how to correct their aim. Cyalume and Fiocchi anticipate presenting the new ChemiTracer shotshell platform this fall with a planned full product launch in 2011.

The integration of Cyalume’s chemiluminescent light technology into the Fiocchi shotshell offers shotgun shooters a new training aid. The non-toxic, non-flammable, non-incendiary ChemiTracer shotgun shell enhances training capabilities for both the law enforcement and target shooting markets while eliminating fire hazards and environmental issues associated with conventional tracer applications.

We look forward to working with the leader in chemical light technology to bring to market innovative target shooting and hunting applications,” said Carlo Fiocchi, vice-president of marketing and sales, Fiocchi Ammunition USA. “The ChemiTracer is a transformational technological breakthrough which has the potential to revolutionize training for our shooters.”

Fiocchi, with its global reach and premium ammunition platform, was the ideal company to partner with to market this novel shotgun tracer,” said Derek Dunaway, CEO of Cyalume Technologies. “We believe our unique military-grade chemiluminescent light technology will allow Fiocchi shooters around the world and at all levels to improve their shooting performance.”
