Wellington, New Zealand-based Wynyard Group said it has entered into an agreement to commercialize New Zealand Police-developed digital forensics technology for the global law enforcement and intelligence market.

Developed in 2007, New Zealand Police technology called EVE (Environment for Virtualized Evidence) allows enforcement officers rapidly to analyze seized electronic goods such as mobile phones, PCs, and other storage devices for evidence and intelligence.  It does this by creating a virtual copy of the device and presenting the data to officers to view and search whilst still preserving all of the data in its original form.

Wynyard Group CEO, Craig Richardson, said the EVE technology improves the efficiency and effectiveness of those gathering data from the devices, which ultimately results in a much faster time taken to gather vital evidence against criminals.

“The New Zealand Police is leading the world in digital forensics with its EVE technology.  It has solved a growing problem — the cost effective, rapid, forensically safe capture, processing and search of digital evidence from seized mobile and storage devices,” said Richardson.

Wynyard Group has bought EVE from the New Zealand Police and integrated it with Wynyard’s criminal intelligence technology.

“Together with the New Zealand Police, we’ve developed a game changing product for the billion dollar global cyber crime, forensic imaging, validation and analysis market,” Richardson said.

NZ police Deputy Commissioner Operations Mike Bush said it made sense for the NZ Police to work with a company that can extend and enhance EVE both for the New Zealand Police and for law enforcement agencies in other countries.

EVE was developed by our E-Crime team. It has garnered interest from police forces and governments around the world.  By working with Wynyard Group we have ensured that EVE will continue to be a world-leading crime-fighting tool.”

Based in New Zealand with offices in six countries, Wynyard Group has a growing list of intelligence and investigations software.  It also has experience in commercializing precision law enforcement software, most recently an investigations case management solution with the Australian Federal Police which is now used in the fight against organized crime, counterterrorism, and covert operations by more than fifty government agencies in different countries.
