Face-recognition computer access control is here

Some computers and laptops already have replaced passwords with fingerprint authentication, but a new solution offers face recognition as the ultimate computer access authentication measure

The move from passwords or pin numbers to biometric identification has been underway for a while. Some desktop and laptop computers already incorporate fingerprinting authentication as a security measure. Covert, Michigan-based Sensible Vision is taking this trend to the next level by offering computer access control and authentication based on the user’s face. Sensible Vision’s FastAccess uses the company’s patent-pending biometric facial recognition automatically and continuously to authenticate user log-in and instantly secure the computer when the user leaves. George Brostoff, CEO of Sensible Vision, says that “Because a person’s face is unique and always with them, it is ultimately the ideal password and the best way of continuously ensuring who is accessing the computer.”

The company sees the solution as heralding a new paradigm for secure and simplified computer access. The solution identifies and authenticates users in less time than it takes to enter a password and knows the second they leave their computers. These breakthroughs make it a simple, secure and low-cost approach for securing the computer and network.”
