More than 500 IT security leaders will meet in Barcelona in November for the ISF 19th annual congress

More than 500 senior information risk and security professionals from the world’s leading companies and organizations will be converging on Barcelona, Spain for the Information Security Forum’s (ISF) 19th Annual World Congress on 16-18 November. The event is recognized as one of the world’s leading information security conference.

Information security is no longer just a technical challenge and both businesses and governments need to address operational and reputational risk at the highest level,” says Howard Schmidt, ISF’s new president. “Threats range from the growth in organized crime and cyber-warfare to avoiding accidental or deliberate leakage of confidential data. And of course the increasing compliance demands of corporate governance and legislation put more pressure on senior business and information security managers.”

In addition to the main room sessions, there will be almost fifty break-out sessions across ten different areas from compliance, security awareness, and convergence to security tools and techniques and risk management.

2008 has seen headlines of serious data loss, international cyber-warfare, organized fraud, commercial espionage and hacking at the highest levels,” says Kim Aarenstrup, chairman of the ISF and group head of Information Security at the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group. “These are just some of the challenges that face today’s information security professionals and reinforce the importance of harnessing their knowledge and expertise to avoid future breaches and facilitate greater efficiency and productivity. The ISF Annual Congress provides an opportunity to meet, listen, debate and gain practical advice in a peer-to-peer, confidential environment.”

We note that the ISF do more than conferences. The organization has sponsored research and has invested more than $100 million to create a library of more than 200 reports along with information risk methodologies and tools that are available free of charge to Members.
