Former governor of Florida Jeb Bush and former president of Mexico Vicente Fox have both agreed to speak at this year’s upcoming ASIS International annual conference in Orlando, Florida.

The two former elected officials will be the event’s keynote speakers along with Burt Rutan, the designer of SpaceShipOne, the first privately built manned spacecraft to reach space. Bush will open the conference with his address. Bush was the forty-third governor of Florida and the first Republican governor to serve two full terms.

Fox will follow Bush as the keynote speaker for the conference’s second day, and Rutan will close out the conference on its third day.

Fox was elected president in 2000 and oversaw Mexico’s fledgling democracy at a critical time, instituting democratic reforms and strengthening the economy. Rutan was named Inc. magazine’s entrepreneur of the year in 2005 and has laid the foundation for affordable space tourism.

ASIS International is the world’s leading organization for security professionals and every year it brings together more than 20,000 people from around the world for its Seminar and Exhibits show. This year’s conference will be ASIS’s 57th since it was founded in 1955.

Last year, ASIS brought together roughly 22,000 professionals from more than ninety countries in the security industry. The conference attracted a variety of professionals in the field including consultants, corporate executives, procurement officers, and government officials.

At the 2010 conference, it was estimated that 21 percent of buyers attending the conference were planning on procuring at least $5 million worth of security products and services for the year.

During the conference’s three day span, ASIS will host 175 training seminars, panels, and educational talks, in addition to showcasing exhibits from 700 companies.

In the past exhibitors have included large firms like L-3 Communications and SAIC as well as companies like Designed Security, Inc. and Maxxess Systems, Inc. Exhibitors showcased a diverse array of products including access control systems, biometric identification technology, and various cyber security platforms.

Speaking about last year’s conference, ASIS president Joseph R. Granger, said, “Over the course of three days, attendees will be face-to-face with some of the foremost authorities in their profession, see hands-on demonstrations of the most advanced security product and service solutions available, and have the opportunity to establish and strengthen their professional network.”

This year’s conference is scheduled to take place from 19 September to 22 September 2011.
