Airport folliesMichael Vick busted for smuggling marijuana on a plane

Ignorance of airport procedures foils the Atlanta quarterback; experts and hopheads agree that large water bottles are not the best of smuggling mediums these days; HSDW decides whether to provide better advice

Dopeheads take note: Atlanta Falcon’s quarterback Michael Vick, hoping to get a bit higher than 40,000 feet, was busted at Miami International Airport for trying to sneak marijauan through airport securit. No big news there; ever year another celebrity gets caught doing something similar. What is pertinent is how he got caught. Perhaps unaware of new TSA regulations requiring the transportation of liquids, he fashioned a hidden compartment for his stash within a twenty-ounce water bottle — manufactured so that the evil weed would be hidden from view if the bottle remained upright. No such luck. Because the bottle’s size exceeded regulations, and because Vick initially refused to hand it over for inspection, it was carefully examined and sniffed. What was found was “a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma.”

Our own knowledge of airport security practices prompts us to give advise to would-be petty smugglers like Vick. Yet our instinct tells us to hold off.
