The state of Michigan is now merging responsibility for both physical and digital infrastructure protection under one organization

The state of Michigan is now merging responsibility for both physical and digital infrastructure protection under one organization.

The new department will be led by Dan Lohrmann, the state’s chief technology officer who previously served as the state chief information security officer.

Lohrmann will report to David Behen, the chief information officer, under the new title of director of Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection (CIP).

The merging of the two operations is expected to be completed by 1 October.

John Nixon, the director of the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, the new home of CIP, said the new office will help provide state agencies with a single organization that is responsible for overseeing risk management and security issues with state assets, property, systems, and networks.

The new department will also aid in the creation and execution of a comprehensive state-wide security strategy for all resources and infrastructure.

We look forward to the development of the new Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection organization as a national model and resource,” Nixon said.
