Innometrik, Lumidigm integrate technologies

Lumidigm announced that Innometriks’ Rhino reader, which combines embedded Lumidigm fingerprint biometrics, smart cards, PKI, and digital signature technologies, is handling high security applications in extreme weather and rough environments for several organizations of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The Rhino’s U.S. government credential configuration provides tiered authentication levels that meet the SP800-116 implementation guidelines. The Rhino is FIPS201-certified and approved by the TSA.

“Many of the DoD’s applications are used in areas where traditional biometrics were tried but failed,” explains John Cassise, Innometriks CEO. “Warfighters, first responders and many other DoD employees don’t have control over the environments in which they work and do not have time to wait for the biometric reader to get a correct read of their fingerprint. They need it to work the first time.”

“To be successful, many DoD applications demanded far greater reliability than conventional fingerprint technologies could deliver. Various DoD agencies are now securing outdoor vehicle and pedestrian perimeters as well as interior access points using the Rhino. The Rhino solution is also being used for cloud-based perimeter access control with biometric verification in real time. In these applications, the company says, the Rhino reader has withstood extreme environments and harsh abuse from users. In some cases, solutions have included customizations to meet specific application needs. In other applications, Rhino fingerprint biometric readers are working comfortably in tandem with iris biometrics to meet multi-biometric requirements.

“Pilot programs that had been stuck in the development stage for years have now been successfully moved into deployment with the introduction of the Rhino. The Lumidigm Advantage injected the needed reliability to scale these biometric applications effectively and achieve the required return on investment,” adds Cassise.
