UN Security Councils considering harsh condemnation of Syria’s crackdown; draft resolution, advanced by Britain, France, Germany and Portugal, will likely run into a Russian, Chinese veto

Britain and France tabled a UN Security Council resolution yesterday (Wednesday) harshly condemning Syria’s crackdown on protesters. Haaretz reports that Britain, France, Germany and Portugal last month had circulated a draft resolution criticizing Syria at the UN Security Council last month, but Britain has been working on a tougher version. Russia and China, both with veto power, have made it clear that they were uncomfortable with the idea of council involvement in the Syrian crisis.
