NYPD defends spying on mosques

The New York Police Department targeted Muslim mosques with surveillance tactics typically employed for surveillance of criminal organizations. NYPD collected the license plates of worshippers, monitored them on surveillance cameras, and cataloged sermons through a network of informants. NYPD spokesman forcefully defended the legality of these efforts.
