Agreement is seen a “competitive coup” against the managed security industry; Verizon will also acquire certification firm ICSA Labs

Interesting news from the world of cybersecurity. Verizon Business announced this week that it had signed an agreement to purchase Herndon, Virginia-based Cybertrust, a company best known for information security services. The move, say analysts, is Verizon’s latest attempt to build strength in the managed security market, which Frost & Sullivan has estimated will exceed $6 billion by 2011. “The security market has seen its share of mergers,” said analyst Counse Broders of Current Analysis. “This combination, though, will be very beneficial to Verizon Business, Cybertrust, and customers of both, and thrusts Verizon Business squarely onto the global security stage in a positive way. In short, it’s a competitive coup.” No terms were announced for the deal, which will also provide Verizon with security certification company ICSA Labs, an independent division of Cybertrust.
