Unisys selects Animetrics for U.S. Department of Defense synthetic identification project; the company uses 2D to 3D face creation technology for face recognition matching in difficult face imaging environments

Conway, New Hampshire-based Animetrics has been chosen by Unisys Corporation to provide advanced facial biometric technologies and services to fulfill a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Task Order for Synthetic Identification Models. Animetrics is a face recognition specialist which uses 2D to 3D face creation technology for face recognition matching in difficult face imaging environments. The company will provide 3D facial processing technology which will provide DoD with the face identification tools and utilities needed for the national security community.

Thomas Giroir, managing director for Advanced Programs at Unisys said, “The 3D technology created by Animetrics to more accurately represent the face biometric using simply any normal photo or video frame of the face is remarkable. It will help our customers particularly in the national security community to more precisely identity persons of interest and increase our situational awareness.”

Animetrics president and CEO Paul Schuepp commented, “We have been working closely with Unisys now for 5 years under several DoD task order contracts about moving the 2D 3D facial applications to more accurate and practical use potentially for the DoD and DoJ field agent. Now we are very excited to be able to build real solutions that deal with the facial imagery at almost any angle and even take advantage of the mobile phone platforms.”

Animetrics 2D to 3D face creation and recognition products are built on the core technology called FACEngine which is supported by three patents issued. Animetrics FACEngine and 2D to 3D face creation product called Forensica will be further developed under this DoD task order and will also be available commercially for use in law enforcement and border control.
