HIIDE is a rugged hand-held biometric enrollment and recognition device providing real-time identification using iris, finger, and face biometrics. More than 10,000 devices are currently fielded into areas of conflict around the world. Back in March, L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: ID), HIIDE manufacturer, won an $8.3 million U.S. Army contract for HIIDE 4.0.

The company says it has  received new orders totaling $9.6 million for its HIIDE and PIER mobile biometric recognition systems as part of existing customer agreements. Two thirds of the HIIDE order and all of the PIERs are expected to ship in the third quarter. The remaining HIIDEs will be shipped in Q4 2009. The order was received by the Biometrics Division of L-1.

These orders continue to reinforce our position as a premier supplier of proven technology that is unmatched in the field and critical to our troops’ safety and the security of our nation,” said Robert V. LaPenta, chairman, president, and CEO of L-1 Identity Solutions.

The company describes HIIDE as the world’s first ruggedized tri-modal mobile biometric enrollment and recognition device providing real-time identification using iris, finger, and face biometrics. First introduced in 2005, it is the most widely deployed multi-modal device with defense agencies. More than 4,500 PIER devices are in the field today, used for iris-based mobile biometric enrollment and identification.
