The Dallas Convention Center will host ASIS International’s 56th Annual Seminar and Exhibits from Tuesday, 12 October, until Thursday, the 15th. Attendees will be able to choose from 160 seminar sessions and keynote speeches and exhibits featuring innovative security technologies and solutions from approximately 700 companies. They will also have the opportunity to meet with more than 20,000 security professionals from ninety countries.

ASIS president Joseph R. Granger, CPP, commented on the experience a convention attendee can expect: “Over the course of three days, attendees will be face-to-face with some of the foremost authorities in their profession, see hands-on demonstrations of the most advanced security product and service solutions available, and have the opportunity to establish and strengthen their professional network.”

ASIS Accolades

A team of judges representing end-users and experts in security technologies evaluated more than seventy entries before selecting the ten winners of the 2010 ASIS Accolades. The ten winners represent what the judges have determined to be the most innovative security solutions.

Accolades co-chair Ron Lander, CPP commented on the large number of video surveillance technology at the conference, showing rapid development and offering “enhanced analytics functionality and better resolution.” Lander admitted that this year’s program was very “competitive.”

Pre-convention programs

Before the convention begins, ASIS will offer a series of pre-seminar programs beginning Sunday, 10 October. “The Successful Security Consultant” and “Detecting Deception in Verbal and Written Statements,” are both two-day long programs. The first program is tailored toward those looking to start their own security consultant practice or to reinvigorate an already existing one. The second has its applications in law enforcement through investigation, interrogation, and document reviewing.

A seminar series that focuses on “Women in Security” will take place throughout Monday. Among the talks available to attendees: “How to Promote Yourself,” “Staying Competitive While Managing the Work/Life Balance,” and “Women in Security: An Open Session”.

ASIS’s certification programs

ASIS International is not only a membership organization and it does more than organize well-received events. The organization is also known for its history of certification programs in the security field.

2007 marked the 30th anniversary of ASIS International’s professional certification program, the only program of its kind to be awarded the designation by DHS under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology Act of 2002 (SAFETY Act). The SAFETY ACT ensures that the threat of liability does not deter manufacturers of anti-terrorism technologies from developing and commercializing new products that could significantly reduce the risks
