Mirion delivers SPIR Detect to Italy

California-based company delivers its radiation detection product to Italy’s Civil Defense Authority; the Italians say they will deploy the monitors to protect critical infrastructure facilities

The Italian Civil Defense Authority has received an order of Mirion Technologies radiation monitors as part of an effort to protect critical infrastructure.

UPI reports that San Ramon, California-based Mirion says its Health Physics Division has announced a successful delivery of its SPIR Detect radiation monitor systems to Italian defense officials at the Civil Defense Authority. The SPIR Detect monitors can be integrated into security operations for portable uses or installed in a fixed capacity at airports and railway stations among other applications.

We are honored to have been selected to provide the Italian Civil Defense Authority with these flexible area radiation monitors,” Antony Besso, Mirion Health Physics Division president, said in a statement. “We are committed to providing the civil defense industry with new solutions that assist with detection and identification of radioactive materials.”
