Libya’s prime minister confided in Russia’s envoy to Africa that Col. Qaddafi has a suicide plan for Tripoli if the rebels took over the city; the regime plans to shower the city with missiles and destroy it rather see the rebels control it; Libya has plenty of surface-to-surface missiles, and so far it has not used any of them against the rebels

It appears that Col. Gaddafi has prepared a suicide plan for Tripoli, which will involve showering it with surface-to-surface missiles if the rebels take over the city.

Mikhail Margelov, Russia’s special envoy to Africa, told the newspaper Izvestia that Libya’s prime minister Baghdadi al-Mahmudi personally told him of the plan.

The Libyan premier told me: if the rebels seize the city, we will cover it with missiles and blow it up,” said Margelov who was in Libya last month for talks with both the government and the rebels. “I imagine that the Gaddafi regime does have such a suicidal plan,” he added, saying that Col. Gaddafi still had plentiful supplies of missiles and ammunition.

The Libyan regime has plenty of missiles in stock, and so far has chosen not to use them against the rebels. The regime, though, is running short on tank and artillery shells, ammunition for small arms, and petrol.
