Last week AT&T announcedthat it had successfully fended off an attack by hackers.

The company said it is still unclear what the hackers’ intentions were, but no accounts were breached and less than 1 percent of mobile customers were affected.

As a precaution, AT&T advised 100 million customers to be wary of any suspicious emails or text messages requesting sensitive information.

The company recently experienced a three hour service outage in the Northeast, but said the attacks were unrelated.

According to the company, the attack was “an organized attempt to obtain information,” which suggests it was a concerted effort by several people working in conjunction and not a lone hacker.

AT&T also said that the attackers sought to access to customer accounts by using “auto script technology” in an effort to phone numbers to online accounts.

The attack is still under investigation.
