Wansbeck Kids First Nursery in Ashington, Northumberland, England has installed a fingerprint scanning system to control entry to a children’s nursery. Only parents and care givers whose fingerprints are kept on a database will be able to gain access to Allison Winship, the nursery manager, said: “We wanted to provide maximum security for children and staff. We also wanted to take the pressure off the staff as before they were always having to answer the door to allow parents in.”

Matt James, the managing director of Newcastle-based UK Biometrics, which created the system, said: “When people think of fingerprint identification they think of James Bond films. This proves that state-of-the-art technology is available to everyday services too.”
