Reveal CT-80 receives coveted SAFETY Act certification

Reveal is one of the companies producing explosive detection systems for airports; it has already received many orders for its systems, and now has received a prized DHS certification, too

We reported a few days ago that the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) was buying the chubby-looking Reveal CT-80 explosive detection system as part of a new emphasis on explosive detection in airport security policy. The acquisition of the CT-80 is part of TSA’s effort to reach the goal of inspecting 100 percent of checked baggage for explosives. Bedford, Massachusetts-based Reveal Imaging Technologies, which makes the detection device, should be happy for another achievement: The Reveal CT-80 is the first explosive detection system (EDS) to be certified as an approved product for Homeland Security under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 (the SAFETY Act). Reveal Imaging is one of only three companies successfully to pass the TSA’s certification process for automated EDS. It may be difficult to tell from the picture below, but based on the spec sheet of the three EDS machines, the CT-80 is the smallest, lightest, and least expensive EDS in production.
