SafeNet launches encryptors for Metro Ethernet

More businesses now rely on Metro Ethernet for their business communications, so securing these networks becomes even more essential

Belcamp, Maryland-based SafeNet (NASDAQ: SFNT) will launch its new line of Ethernet Encryptors to secure Metro Ethernet. The company will demonstrate the new solution at Interop 2006 which is being held in Las Vegas during the first week in May. Specifically, SafeNet will have two demonstrations: a fiber wire tap to show the vulnerability of a traditional fiber line; and an encrypted video feed secured at Layer 2 over simulated Metro Ethernet using the company’s new line of Ethernet Encryptors.

This is a good time for such a solution. More and more businesses now rely on Metro Ethernet for their business communications, operations, and continuity planning. Research group Infonetics Research says that world-wide Metro Ethernet equipment revenue nearly doubled between 2004 and 2005, from $2.6 billion to more than $4.9 billion, and is expected to triple to $15.5 billion by 2009. A single disruption of these services owing to an accident or malicious attack can cause major losses for businesses, to say nothing of the chance of incurring significant legal liability.
