Schumer pushing for new airport security scanning device
New York senator claims new scanner, produced by a Long Island-based company, would have prevented Shahzad from getting past no-fly list; the new scanning device would cross check passengers, weed-out fake IDs, and track visa overstays
Claiming a new security device produced by a Long Island company would close the loophole allowing terrorists to get past no-fly lists, Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) pushed the DHS to place the new scanning devices at airports.
WPIX reports that Schumer insisted that the device could have prevented admitted Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad from boarding an Emirates flight to Dubai. “If the system would have been in place it is unlikely Shahzad would have made it aboard that plane,” said Schumer.
$50 million in funding exists for the pilot program that would be incorporated at airports, said Schumer.
The new scanning device, manufactured by Intellicheck Mobilisa, would cross check passengers, weed-out fake IDs, and track visa overstays, said Schumer.
