Leading NEPs and embedded ecosystem vendors join SCOPE and endorse organization’s vision of open Carrier Grade Base platforms

Some talk about interoprability, and some do something about it. The SCOPE Alliance aims to do something about interoperability, and it boasts new members — and important members, too. The association of leading Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) yesterday said that CorEdge, ENEA, GE Fanuc, Nortel, PrismTech, RedHat, Ulticom, and VirtualLogix, have joined the alliance, committing to support SCOPE’s mission which the organization describes as “enabling and promoting the availability and interoperability of open Carrier Grade Base Platforms based on Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) building blocks.” Magnus Karlson, chairman of the SCOPE Alliance, said that “The ongoing work of the Alliance will be greatly enhanced by these new members.” He went on to say “the resources, experience, area expertise and perspective of these leading companies added to our existing members makes for a powerful combination that can generate timely results.”

With Nortel as a member, the alliance now includes within its ranks a great majority of the leading global NEPs. “The work of the SCOPE Alliance is extremely valuable and we are pleased to be adding our resources and contributions,” said Sita Lowman, Carrier Core Marketing leader of Nortel. “The SCOPE Alliance provides the developers and ecosystem vendors clear direction which greatly enhances the applicability of final products.”
