IEEE-USA to host Boston-Area Homeland Security Conference

A business panel with local and national experts on technology commercialization is to be the main feature of the 2008 IEEE International Conference on Technologies for Homeland Security

A business panel with local and national experts on
technology commercialization is to be the main feature of the 2008 IEEE International Conference on Technologies for
Homeland Security, set for 12-13 May at the Westin Hotel in Waltham,
Massachusetts. The panel,
scheduled for Tuesday 13 May at 8 a.m., will include representatives of a
number of companies and agencies that contribute to the commercialization of
homeland security technologies.

 

Gregory Bialecki, undersecretary, Executive Office of Housing and
Economic Development, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, will welcome the business
panel and deliver the keynote address. The featured speakers are Dr.
Thomas Cellucci, chief commercialization officer for the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate; and Peter Ciganer,
executive vice president of In-Q-Tel, an independent, non-profit organization founded by
the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1999 to make strategic investments in
innovative intelligence technologies.

 

Cellucci is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and commercializing
technology for rapid development and deployment
of products and services that meet the operational requirements of DHS and its
end users. Ciganer oversees government customer relations and communications
for In-Q-Tel, which identifies and partners with companies that deliver
cutting-edge technologies to the CIA and the broader U.S. community.

Authority (Massport). The event is
organized by the IEEE Boston Section and IEEE-USA, itself part of the IEEE, known
