Hoboken is poised to become a center for research into port security

DHS has selected Stevens Institute of Technology to receive grants up to $2 million per year for the next four to six years. The Hoboken-based school will lead a research effort that will also include Rutgers, MIT, the University of Miami, Monmouth University, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Senator Robert Menendez and representatives Albio Sires, Steven Rothman, and Bill Pascrell Jr., all from New Jersey, announced the Stevens Tech grant this morning in Hoboken. New Jersey’s congressional delegation has pushed for creating minimum security standards for all shipping containers entering the nation’s seaports.
