bioMetrx strikes gold with biometric garage door opener

Television publicity, not our previous report, most likely cause of suburban demand; company opens Web site to process rush of orders; biometrics for kids a growing market

Almost one year ago we gave notice to a small company out of Jericho, New York that offered a biometric garage door opener. At the time we were uncertain that the market would be interested. Boy, we were wrong. Ever since the product was featured on the Home and Garden televion channel (HGTV), bioMetrx reports tremendous demand, so much so that the company is opening its own online shop to distribute it. “The Company has received over 1000 online direct consumer orders for the smartTOUCH GDO … and has since caught the interest of the big box retailers,” noted Lorraine Yarde, Chief Operating Officer for bioMETRX.

At a cost of approximately $100 per unit, company officials are looking at a lucrative trade, even if only a small percentage of the 30 million households with traditional garage door openers buy the smartTOUCH GDO. So far, the company has sold more than $3.5 million worth, mainly, we presume, to families with children. Long-time readers know that many companies are developing biometrics products with youth in mind — they are exceedingly likely to lose keys or lunch money — and so we applaud bioMetrx for jumping on board as well. One drawback: determined thieves might kidnap a child in order to force him to open his garage.
