Multiformat offering comes after company shines at the Turin Olympics

The last time we heard from Germany-based Bundesdruckerei, the company was winning attention for securing the German athletes’s quarterters at the Turin Olympics. Soon after, the company was contracted to develop a unique eSticker for the Lithuanian ePassport. Now we hear more good news. The company is poised to introduce its offerings for the European Citizen Card. In what is being presented as a world’s first, it comes in several different formats. “The ECC can be produced as a hybrid card with a contactless and a contact chip,” the company explained. The idea, it seems, is to exploit smartcard opportunities in the private, public, and hybrid sectors. Among various other applications are the ability of citizens to register their new homes, access pension accounts, and transmit legally binding signatures.
