Deal fills out German fleet to a robust forty; German soldiers spent eighteen months testing the EOD drones; iRobot continues to dominate the market

Strike up the band once again for Burlington, Massachusetts-based iRobot, a company that hardly needs any introduction to our readers. Known for its inventive straddle of the exploisves disposal and housekeeping markets (it also manfactures the popular Roomba), the company has been doing extremely well recently in marketing its PackBot EOD robots. This is the German force’s second such purchase — it bought eighteen PackBots last year — and follows a comprehensive eighteen month testing program. “During user training, participating soldiers reported they were impressed by PackBot’s lightweight design, ease of use, speed, sensitivity and maneuverability,” the company reported. All in all, iRobot has shipped more than 800 of the drones to a wide range of international customers.
