Canada orders 415 new Viisage readers

$2.8 million contract will bring the total number of ePassport readers to 815 nationwide, making the Canadian program the single largest deployment of its kind

More good news for Billerica, Massachusetts-based Viisage Technology and its parent company L-1 Identity Solutions, (and good news, too, for those interested in the booming Canadian homeland security market). The company last week announced that it had received a $2.8 million order from the Canadian goverment for 415 document authentication readers — a deal that comes on top of the 400 of the company’s readers already deployed in that country. “We believe that this order … makes the Canadian program the single largest deployment of RFID-enabled document authentication readers in the world,” said president Jim Ebzery. The readers — based on the iA-thenticate platform — will be used at Canada’s international airports and land border crossings to read and authenticate ePassports.
