Deal just the latest African success for the digital watermarking company; Digimarc releases earnings report

The digital watermark pioneers at Beaverton, Oregon-based Digimarc continue their efforts to conquer the African identification market. Having already signed deals to produce driver’s licenses for Ghana, Botswana, and Lesotho, the company recently announced a similar arrangement with Mozambique. (Digimarc also helped with Mozambique’s voter registration program.) The Mozambique Administracao Nacional de Estradas (ANE), the company reports, will incorporate Digimarc’s Camera Tower — known for its shadow reduction system — and ExianDual card architecture for over-the-counter driver license issuance. The new driver license is intended to be compliant with South African Development Community standards.

In related news, Digimarc also released financial results for fiscal year 2006. The company reported revenue of $104.2 million, or 3% higher as compared to $101.1 million for the prior year. The company also reported a net loss for the year of $11.7 million, down from $23.1 million, and a $12.5 million growth in cash flow “due to productivity improvements resulting from workforce restructuring and related efficiency measures.”
