EMC announces new security division to house recent acquisitions

RSA, a leader in online identity management, and Network Intelligence, known for real-time security analysis, come together in a single unit

Fresh off the company’s $2.1 billion acquisition of RSA Security and $175 million deal for Network Intelligence, EMC announced this week it had set up a new security division to integrate those companies’ products. RSA was a leader in managing online identities and assets with encryption and key management software. Network Intelligence, for its part, boasted a talented ability to collect and analyze security events in real time within a network. EMC intends the new division to focus on developing the firm’s information-centric security strategy “to help organizations around the world secure their information throughout its lifecycle and reduce the associated cost of regulatory compliance.” RSA Security, the larger of the two newly acquired assets, will supply the meat and potatoes of the new division, while Network Intelligence will become a business unit within it.
