With the help of facial recognition technology, police in Lancaster, California were able to apprehend two individuals thought to be behind a string of armed robberies.

The two suspects were arrested last Thursday after police ran their faces caught on security camera footage against a database of booking photos.

“The first major lead came when a clear image of the (male) suspect’s face was captured on a surveillance camera during the robbery of (the) check-cashing business,” explained Sergeant Randy Harris of the Lancaster Sherriff’s Department.

After running the photo, detectives were able to find a possible match for the gunman, who they proceeded to track down.

“The male suspect who was arrested for the robberies is the same suspect the facial recognition program indicated as a possible match,” Harris said.

A search of the female suspect’s apartment yielded a handgun believed to be used in the string of robberies.

The two suspects were arrested a day after a postal supply and private mailbox business was robbed. The two were also believed to have robbed a check-cashing business and fast-food restaurant.
