FBI approves Neurotechnology's latest biometric algorithms

Last week Neurotechnology, a developer of sophisticated biometric identification solutions, announced that two of its newest fingerprint compression algorithms received WSQ Certification; the certification means that the FBI has verified that these two algorithms meet the accuracy requirements in its latest standard for exchange of fingerprint images within the biometrics and law enforcement community

Last week Neurotechnology, a developer of sophisticated biometric identification solutions, announced that two of its newest fingerprint compression algorithms received WSQ Certification.

The certification means that the FBI has verified that these two algorithms meet the accuracy requirements in the Wavelet Scalar Quantization (WSQ) Gray-Scale Fingerprint Image Compression Specification, Version 3.1, the latest standard for exchange of fingerprint images within the biometrics and law enforcement community.

Neurotechnology’s VeriFinger SDK fingerprint compression algorithms are among the first to receive the latest WSQ Certification.

Interoperability and biometric standards support is a critical requirement for large-scale biometric applications,” said Irmantas Naujikas, business development director for Neurotechnology. “At Neurotechnology we are continuously working in this area and WSQ 3.1 certification by the FBI acknowledges our efforts. Having a product certified for all major PC platforms is very big competitive advantage for our customers.”

According to the FBI, the certification program is designed to help ensure interoperability between agencies and guarantee efficient access to FBI criminal justice information services. WSQ certification is also required by many international customers especially in large-scale country-wide applications.

VeriFinger is a software development kit (SDK) for the development of PC- and Web-based biometric solutions. Currently more than 1500 end-user products were developed in more than 100 countries using the VeriFinger algorithm.

Meanwhile the MegaMatcher SDK incorporates the VeriFinger fingerprint algorithm in a more powerful, multi-biometric SDK that is suitable for large-scale applications. In addition to the fingerprint identification technology, MegaMatcher also incorporates the company’s facial, iris, voice, and palm print technologies which can be used by itself or in any combination with the others for a multi-biometric verification solution.
