Deloitte & Touche survey finds few Americans have even heard of program, even though most respondents listed long security lines as a top complaint

Somebody call Steven Brill. A Deloitte & Touche survey has found that the vast majority of travelers have no plans to enroll in the Registered Traveler Program — even though it permits them expedited access through security checkpoints. According to the survey, 61 percent of travelers were unaware of the program, and a whopping 83 percent were not interested even after hearing a description of it. (By comparison, 83 percent were aware of the new WHTI passport regulations for travel to Mexico and Canada.) According to Deloitte, the biometric aspects of the program may be to blame for the lack of interest in Registered Traveler, with 75 percent of survey respondents expressing privacy concerns. And despite uncertainty over the past year about the final consumer price tag, Deloitte found that cost was a minor isssue for travelers.
