Can there be any doubt about globetrotting Gemalto’s dominance of the European electronic passport market? The company has signed deals with the Czech Republic, France, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, and Sweden — not to mention Singapore and the United States. Now we can add one more to the list: Denmark. The country has chosen the Amsterdam, Holland company to manage its e-passport system through 2009, with an option to extend for two years. In addition to its highly-developed passport software and high security polycarbonate data page technologies, Gemalto will also provide passport booklet assembly and individual personalization of each passport. All told, the company will produce 250,000 passports by the end of this year and an expected 800,000 annually through the life of the contract.
