Leader of a Midwest research center predicts the government will invest more in protecting the nation’s food supply

R&D Magazine interviews the heads of four independent research and development organizations about their predictions for 2006. When asked whether he foresaw any changes in funding for his organization over the next year, James Spigarelli, president and CEO of the Kansas City, Kansas-based Midwest Research Institute (MRI), said: “We see a greater emphasis on R&D funding directed at protecting the national food supply — crops and animals — against potential terrorist attacks, pandemics, or other biological or chemical threats.” He should know.
