Homeland security incubator opens on Long Island
The Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage, Long Island, occupies a 90,000-square foot facility which once was Grumman Plant 5; the lunar module was built there in the 1960s and 1970s
A building in which scientists built the spacecraft that carried men to the moon is about to become a hub for the development of homeland security technology.
Newsday reports that the Morrelly Homeland Security Center was dedicated Friday at a former Northrup Grumman site in Bethpage, Long Island.
New York City Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano gave the keynote address.
The center boasts state-of-the-art technology. This would also allow it to double as a “command and control” hub in the event of a major disaster in New York or on the East Coast.
The 90,000-square foot center is the former Grumman Plant 5. The lunar module was built there in the 1960s and 1970s.
