HSDW: How many planes need to be defended against shoulder-fired missiles? DHS refers to about 7,200, while in our conversation with Northrop Grumman they said the number was closer to 4,000.

Burt Keirstead: The operable term in “need to be defended” is “need” — and this is anybody’s guess. You need to make some assumptions about the type of aircraft to be protected. Typically we talk about the larger aircraft, those that go overseas. Nominally you start with wide-body aircraft, those that have two aisles
