ISC West: Premier security event, showcase for the latest security technology

the world. The company has more than 2,500 employees in 35 offices around the globe, and it serves 44 industries.

ISC West, the leading security event in the United States, thus fits nicely in Reed’s stable.

ISC West’s older sister, ISC East, which is still a major security event, was launched more than forty years ago (it will hold its 46th meeting in New York City early November). From its inception, ISC East was catering more to the needs of security equipment manufacturers and low-channel providers and suppliers.

A few years ago ISC West was launched in Anaheim, California, then moved to Las Vegas. The attention Reeds paid to the new venue and the efforts of the city of Las Vegas combined to make ISC West the most important platform in the United States — perhaps the world — for the introduction and launching of new security products and technologies.

The fact that ISC West was launched after the 9/11 terrorist attacks also helped in expanding its appeal. The show has moved from attending to the needs of the installer community to addressing the needs of security end-users, CSOs, and more.

The broader approach of the show, in which products and technologies now appeal to the complete channel of security providers and consumers — manufacturers, security end-users, CSOs, integrators, dealers/installers — has also brought about changes in the demographics of those who attend it. The last three years thus saw an increase in government attendees, many tied to “urban security” — a term now used to cover public safety and security — and an increase in the number of companies and integrators which target and work for not only government agencies, but which provide services more broadly, to school districts, water facilities, educational and industrial campuses, and more.

The show has steadily gown since 9/11 — but the organizers believe it has peaked at where it is now. More companies come into the sector — and to the show — but consolidation in the field balances the overall number of companies in the field.

The number of attendees has also steadily grown by about 2-3 percent a year.

It is not possible to do justice in one issue of a newsletter to the richness, depth, and diversity of the exhibitors at ISC West. The sheer number of companies exhibiting their wares is just too vast, and the number of exciting new solutions, innovative new technologies, and mind-boggling new ideas greater yet. We have, therefore, selected ten companies — some large, some small, some new, some established — by way of offering the flavor of what attendees are likely to see at this important show.
