Lockheed Martin announces new border security testing center

Company, major contender for SBInet contract, isn’t waiting for the results; $16 million center useful for testing, public relations purposes

Jumping the gun, or just confident? As Lockheed Martin waits for DHS to make its choice of contractors for the SBInet border security package, the company is moving forward with a $16 million Border Enforcement Solutions Center. The center will include a demonstration facility and land-border test site, allowing DHS to test and evaluate the wide range of border security initiatives coming down the pike. Considering that the SBInet project is valued at an estimated $2 billion just for its initial phase, and DHS’s decision is expected any day now, the announcement sounds to us like a carefully managed public relations move. Lockheed Martin says it is identifying potential locations for the new facility and, if chosen for the program, would announce site selection shortly thereafter.

The Lockheed Martin SBInet team includes eight companies: Accenture; Advanced Technology Systems; HDR; Harris; High Performance Technologies; Parsons; Science Applications International Corp; and Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services.
