Smartrac sets RFID inlay production record

Dutch company manufactured 11 million smart card inlays in February

What a year it has been so far for Netherlands-based Smartrac. First the company settled its antenna inlay patent dispute with Germany-based Assa Abloy Identification Technologies. Then it acquired a 25 percent stake in Germany-based Multitape, also a manufacturer of smart card inlays. Now Smartrac — which claims to be involved in seventy of ninety-five ePassport projects worldwide — has announced another accomplishment: in February the company broke a record and produced more than eleven million RFID inlays in a single month. This is good news for potential partners worried about Smartrac’s capacity. “We have more production capacity than any of our competitors, and our production is organised so that we can react quickly to increases in demand,” said CEO Manfred Reitzler. “We are therefore well positioned across all market segments.”
