Coloradan IT company wins a multi-year contract with USDA to “beef” up its livestock health monitoring system; software to undergo vigorous testing and overhaul; new forms for disease reporting

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded Fort Collins, Colorado-based Synergetics (not to be confused with Synergetics USA, a surgical instruments company) a multi-year contract to develop and support the Animal Health and Surveillance Management (AHSM) disease management system. AHSM monitors animal health and productivity for domestic animal diseases, and keeps tabs on regulatory and nonregulatory management issues.

Under the contract, Synergetics will conduct feasibility studies, requirements gathering, application design and development, testing, stress testing, implementation, maintenance, help desk support, and technical documentation support for the program. Much of the work required will involve the evolution of a legacy client/server system to the J2EE web based application. Synergetics will also create animal health and surveillance forms for veterinary diseases such as Johnes, brucellosis, scrapie, chronic wasting disease, mad cow, and avian flu.

The company is expected today to release its first quarter earnings for FY2007.
