Ten companies win government DAR contracts

More and more government employees carry more and more laptops; there is a need to secure the data — DAR, for data at rest —on the hard drives of these laptops in case they are lost or stole

Several government agencies have awardedten companies a series of five-year blanket purchase agreements for products to protect data in government laptop computers and other mobile or removable devices. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Defense Department (DoD), and General Services Administration (GSA) jointly awarded the contracts on 18 June. The value of the contracts could reach a total of more than $79 million, according to the agencies. The agreements will provide encryption of sensitive but unclassified data. The technical name for the information is data at rest, or DAR, meaning that it is stored on a disk or other media. The contract winners are:

MTM Technologies of Stamford, Connecticut

Rocky Mountain Ram of Louisville, Colorado

Carahsoft Technology of Reston, Virginia

Spectrum Systems of Fairfax, Virginia

SafeNet of Belcamp, Maryland

Hi Tech Services of Herndon, Virginia

Autonomic Resources of Cary, North Carolina

GovBuys of Bethesda, Maryland

Intelligent Decisions of Ashburn, Virginia

Merlin International of Englewood, Colorado

The acquisition and contract support will be provided by DoD’s Enterprise Software Initiative and the Air Force’s 754th Electronic Systems Group at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Alabama. GSA’s SmartBUY program will provide acquisition support for civilian agencies, and for state and local governments.
