Third Eye introduces employee stress monitor

Designed for medical monitoring, wrist-mounted device detects suspicious behavior

It is nice when a company cares about its employees’s health, but this may be going too far. According to a Gizmag report, Elkhart, Indiana-based Third Eye is set to unveil a wrist-mounted employee security and safety tracking system that sends wireless information about the person’s vital signs to a centralized computer. In another example of cross-over between seemingly differentiated markets, the system was invented by Woodland Hills, California-based SPO Medical to aid in self-monitoring systems for the sick and elderly. Now, however, it is being used to stop criminal acts. As Third Eye executives have duly noted, the human heart rate fluctuates in response to stress — stress caused, perhaps, by stealing from the company. When such signals are detected, cameras attached to the system can be programmed to immediately focus in on the suspicious employee.

Third Eye’s system will be shown for the first time at the ISC West EXPO in Las Vegas scheduled for 28 March 2007. No doubt casino executives will be taking a close look. The fathers of teenage daughters, too.
