Update: TSA lowers proposed Registered Traveler Program fees from $100 to $30

Move follows industry and program participant objections; high fees might have killed the program

Backtracking to get the Registered Traveler (RT) Program back on track. Less than a week after the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced it would charge RT participants fees of approximately $100 to offset increased security and personnel costs, TSA said the charges would be scaled backdown to $30. The move came in response to intense criticism that the high fees would doom the project from the outset. According to the Wall Street Journal, “TSA said it wouldn’t seek reimbursement for these costs unless the program results in new TSA duties and increased costs.”
