Investors should be interested in this: The U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed a resolution declaring computer modeling and simulation a national critical technology. If approved by the Senate, the designation could mean more federal dollars for modeling and simulation efforts in Hampton Roads, including the military’s Joint Forces Command in Suffolk, said U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Virginia), the initiative’s sponsor. “That is a huge lift,” Forbes told a local chapter meeting of the Association of the U.S. Army in Hampton. Forbes, co-chairman of the Congressional Modeling and Simulation Caucus, touts its use for military training, healthcare, emergency response, transportation planning and homeland security. “National level recognition can’t hurt anything — get it in place and we’ll see where it goes,” said Kemp Littlefield, Jr., a Lockheed Martin employee and president of the Army association chapter.

The area around Hampton Roads, Virginia, is now recognized as a national hub for the modeling and simulation industry.
